Trevor Bauer - Cleveland Indians
Cleveland Indians pitcher Trevor Bauer has selected Baseball in Benin as one of three charities that he will be donating to this season. An online vote via Trevor's Twitter page (@BauerOutage) was used to determine who will benefit from his generosity. Thanks to global support, Baseball in Benin received the most votes.
Bauer will donate US$10.00 per strikeout for the entire season.
Taylor Scott and his team the Seattle Mariners will likely become part of history during their series against the Los Angeles Angels this weekend.
Tayler Scott was born in Johannesburg, South Africa on June 1, 1992. The 27 year-old will become the first South African to pitch in the Major Leagues. In fact, he will become the fist African-born pitcher to ever take the mound in a Major League Baseball Game.
Tayler will also become only the second African-born player to make the Major Leagues. Fellow South African Gift Ngoepe, in infielder, made his debut with the Pittsburgh Pirates in April, 2017.
With sports like cricket, soccer and rugby being the major sports in South Africa, Scott bucked the trend and grew up playing baseball. While he still makes South Africa his off-season home, his parents did help him realize his dream by partially relocating to Arizona so that Tayler could play high school baseball. He attended Notre Dame Prep High School in Scottsdale.
The sacrifice paid off when he was drafted by the Cubs in the fifth round of the 2011 MLB Draft.
The South African National team is the top-ranked Baseball team in Africa and is ranked # 23 on the WBSC World Baseball Rankings.
